Obesity: What are the risk factors?

Lifestyle very early influence the risk of obesity.

Several factors have been identified: sleep time, time spent watching TV, standard growth curve, fast fat grain ...

They are identified in the first years of life.

Childhood obesity and the environment: the link is here
The environment is very early and plays a decisive role in the development of childhood obesity. The early identification of factors that promote excess weight makes a suitable and effective prevention.

A study conducted from 8000 children aged 7 years and followed from birth, allowed to list many risk factors for obesity, identifiable during infancy.

Of course, a high birth weight and parental obesity increase the risk.
A genetic mechanism, family environmental or dietary habits can be the cause.

But other environmental indices were also recorded as the duration of sleep: sleep and less than eleven per day at the age of three years favors the appearance of excess weight.

Hormonal factors, late food intake or lack of physical activity can play an important role.

Time spent watching TV is also implicated, even among the very young. Thus, from the age of three years, a child who spends more than eight hours a week in front of the screen has a high risk of becoming obese and 7 years.

Other risk factors for obesity
Continuing finer analysis, the authors identified other risk factors:

an early difference between 8 and 18 months, compared with the growth curve;

a rapid gain of fat tissue before 4 years;

a high weight gain in the first year of life.
Two other factors can not be ignored: the protective effect of breastfeeding and diet appropriate to the age of three years.

Conclude to better prevent obesity in children?
In conclusion, there are many signs that must be identified early childhood to adopt preventive measures, all the more effective they will be in place early, before the extra pounds will be installed.
