THE FOUR TRUTHS OF THE ATKINS DIET

The Atkins diet allows unlimited fat, such as butter and meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. However, it excludes sugar: sugary products, but also carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice and starchy. Vegetables and especially fruit are allowed only in very small quantities. The dramatic weight loss, both in importance by their speed, were recorded.

But as attractive as it may seem, the Atkins diet is not recommended, because in total contradiction to all official recommendations for a healthy diet.

1) Water Loss

If the early loss diet weight is spectacular, it corresponds largely to loss of water, not fat. Indeed, restricting carbohydrates (sugars), pushes the body to draw energy (glucose) in glycogen stores. Or glycogen being related to water, its use is associated with water loss.

2) Effect dangerous appetite suppressant

When glycogen stores are depleted, the body finally attacks the fat to produce energy. But again, in the absence of carbohydrate, fat breakdown is accompanied by a production of ketone bodies. In excess, they induce nausea and fatigue. At the same time, they help to inhibit appetite. Thus even if the followers of this diet are allowed to eat as certain foods they consume the final few calories.

3) Health manhandled

High in fat, particularly saturated fat, the Atkins diet may harm the cardiovascular health. Rich in protein, the kidneys are heavily used to treat and eliminate protein waste. Poor grain, vegetables and fruits, vitamins contributions, antioxidants and fiber may be insufficient, while these elements play a protective role against certain diseases (cancer, cardiovascular diseases ??).

4) No long-term effect

Recall that the goal of the scheme is to lose weight permanently and the essential condition for success is the observance. Certainly for six months, the Atkins diet can lose weight faster than a poor traditional diet limited fat and calories. But beyond that, this advantage disappears gradually, and many other regimes then become more efficient over the long term. Then, the adherence Atkins program is tedious and boring, mainly because of the lack of choice in licensed food. And that's why people eat less and often drop out.

Boring, difficult to maintain, no loss of long-term dramatic weight and health hazard, the Atkins diet is not recommended.
