SLEEPS LESS, MORE EAT?

Lack of sleep stimulates appetite and reduces the feeling of satiety. This could simply be linked to the increase in obesity ...
That's true. There is a link between sleep and diet. A brand new study found that sleep deprivation may very well cause you to eat more

Today we are sleeping two hours less than they did fifty years. Or sleep restriction may affect the hormones that regulate appetite. Thus researchers are interested for twenty years ghrelin and leptin. Ghrelin is a hormone produced by the stomach the day, which stimulates appetite. Leptin is a hormone produced during sleep by adipocytes (fat cells), which conversely stimulates satiety.

Here, for example, the result of these studies. The levels of these hormones and sleep patterns of one thousand volunteers aged 30 to 60 years, were studied for a period of five years. A fifteen percent increase of ghrelin and a decrease of 15.5% of leptin are observed in sleeping subjects on average five hours compared to those who make nights of eight hours. It is also found that body mass index (BMI: weight on the ratio of height squared) is proportional to the decrease in sleep time. Thus, subjects sleeping five hours a night have a BMI (weight on the ratio of height squared) increases of 3.6%, compared to volunteers sleeping eight hours.

According to other studies, these hormonal changes occur very rapidly, from two consecutive nights of sleep lasting less than four hours.

In the end, the reduction of sleep time that characterizes the evolution of industrialized societies could play a role promoting the obesity epidemic, particularly through a hormonal action.

In other words, to fight against weight gain, should be added to a healthy diet and physical exercise, recommendations for ensuring a sufficient sleep time!
