For our
health, we all need to watch our weight. This original study highlights three
key behaviors that do not gain weight. Explanations.
The main factors for weight gain
So far, the weight gain was
primarily attributed to a high fat diet (and therefore calories too) and lack
of physical activity (sedentary).
Today, Canadian researchers have
identified three other key behaviors that contribute to weight gain. Good news,
these behaviors are modifiable, opening the possibility of preventing an
increase in body mass index.
3 new behaviors related to
weight
This study has identified the
essential role of behavior in three weight gain examined 800 people living in
the Quebec region.
The 3 factors associated with
weight gain are:
1) Lack of sleep, less than 6 hours
per night.
2) Low intakes of calcium, less
than 600 mg / day (the recommended dietary allowances for adults is 1200 mg /
day).
3) The tendency to overeat.
These three behaviors increased
more likely to gain weight as too caloric diet and physical inactivity
combined. Supporting Evidence:
Inactivity causes an average
weight gain of 1.3 kg per year.
Physical inactivity associated
with a diet rich successful to an average weight gain of 1.5 kg.
Lack of sleep alone would be
responsible for weight gain of 1.7 kg per year.
Finally, three factors combined
(lack of sleep, calcium deficiency and tendency to overeat) would result in an
additional 3 kg per year.
Weight management is based
on a lifestyle
In conclusion, these three new
factors must be taken into account. Identification emphasizes that weight
changes are a combination of different factors. In other words, weight
management is based on a true lifestyle. Just consider the calorie intake and
physical activity is not enough. It must, in addition, getting enough sleep,
ensuring adequate calcium intake (milk products, mineral water, vegetables ...)
and maintain a healthy eating: no restrictions, no disorder of satiety ...
