Duel between diet plans

The two largest types of plans just been scientifically compared. Compared to traditional limiting fat and calories, weight loss is greater with a diet low in refined sugar and starch (6-7kg against 2-3kg). Unfortunately, this difference disappears after one year.

Faced with rising obesity, the desire to lose weight is now very present. Besides the traditional diet recommended by medical institutions, advocating the restriction of fats and calories, especially those excluding sugar gradually became popular. Despite this enthusiasm, no scientific study had yet evaluated their respective long-term effectiveness.
In two comparative studies, obese subjects were assigned to follow either a diet low in carbohydrates (refined sugar and starch) and consequently rich in protein and fat, a more traditional diet, low in fat and calories (less than 30% of calories). At six months, we find a weight loss of more importance with the diet low in carbohydrate: 6 to 7kg against 2 to 3kg with the low fat diet. But at 12 months, this difference fades.
Given the known benefits of fat restriction, it is clear that other studies, longer and wider, are needed to assess more precisely diets low in sugar. Meanwhile, recommend a healthy lifestyle including regular and balanced diet physical activity: fruits and vegetables, grains, lean meats, fish at least twice a week and restriction of total fat and saturated.
Obesity has doubled in the United States in twenty years. Two-thirds of adults are overweight, over 30% are obese, nearly 8% had diabetes, and 24% suffer from metabolic syndrome (visceral obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia, hypertension, glucose intolerance). Finally, nearly 45% of women and 30% of men are trying to lose weight.
Last word, Focus on controlling the psychological aspects of weight gain and weight loss is admirable. Stress eating is related to exaggerated abdominal fat. Healthy stress management is crucial for successful weight loss.
